Name: Mick Reed
Rank: CI
Position: Project Officer
Cadet service from: April 1954 to April 1962
Adult  service from: 1964 to Present

Experience:

I joined 114 as a Cadet in April 1954, progressing through the Squadron to become the first ever Cadet Warrant Officer. After a two-year break I returned to the Squadron as a Civilian Instructor. During my time as an instructor I have instructed cadets in most of the syllabus subjects used for exams and for many years, held the following positions in the Squadron: - Weapons Officer, Sports Officer, Adventure Training Officer and D of E Officer. As for my civilian career, from the age of 16 I was employed as an Engineering Apprentice with an aircraft electrical equipment company. After completing my apprenticeship I moved to a company within the group who manufactured military and commercial electronic equipment with the splendid title of a Junior Design Draughtsman. Over the years I worked on the design of military equipment for all three armed services, test equipment for commercial use and medical electronic equipment. I progressed through the Design Drawing Office until I became the Drawing Office Manager, responsible for mechanical design of all products manufactured by the company and the day-to-day running of the office.

My Role at 114 Squadron:

At the present moment I hold the position of Squadron Projects Officer, organise and supervise the Aeromodelling Project and instruct Principles of Flight to cadets studying for the Leading Cadet exam. When required I assist with other cadet activities.

My future hopes for 114 Squadron:

To assist the Squadron and Cadets to achieve all that can be obtained while being members of the Air Cadets and for the Squadron to remain as one of the top Squadrons in Middlesex Wing and the Country.
