I joined 114 as a Cadet in April 1954, progressing through the Squadron to become the first ever Cadet Warrant Officer. After a two-year break I returned to the Squadron as a Civilian Instructor. During my time as an instructor I have instructed cadets in most of the syllabus subjects used for exams and for many years, held the following positions in the Squadron: - Weapons Officer, Sports Officer, Adventure Training Officer and D of E Officer. As for my civilian career, from the age of 16 I was employed as an Engineering Apprentice with an aircraft electrical equipment company. After completing my apprenticeship I moved to a company within the group who manufactured military and commercial electronic equipment with the splendid title of a Junior Design Draughtsman. Over the years I worked on the design of military equipment for all three armed services, test equipment for commercial use and medical electronic equipment. I progressed through the Design Drawing Office until I became the Drawing Office Manager, responsible for mechanical design of all products manufactured by the company and the day-to-day running of the office. |
